Monthly UK Mergers and Acquisitions Round Up – August 2016

228 transactions involving UK targets took place in August, according to company deals database, Zephyr.

The month’s most valuable deal saw Orange SA, the multinational telecommunications corporation, complete the highly anticipated acquisition of Jazztel PLC for a fee reported to be in excess of £2.8 billion.

Headquartered and registered in London, Jazztel operates within the Spanish telecommunications market, offering telephone, internet and television services. Through the acquisition, Orange aims to create the second-largest fixed-line broadband operator and “one of the most dynamic players in the mobile segment in Spain”, in an effort to drive customer take-up of convergent offers.

Another notable deal that took place in August saw Banco De Sabadell SA complete the £1.7 billion deal to acquire the remaining shares of TSB Banking Group PLC.

Following the deal, TSB will join the group, which is Spain’s fifth largest banking group and operates throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA, as its UK banking arm.

August also saw the acquisition of CSR PLC, a multinational specialist in the development of smart Bluetooth technology, by Qualcomm Global Trading PTE LTD for £1.49 billion.
