Mergers & Acquisitions in August 2014

The month of August saw 211 acquisitions of UK based companies publicly announced, according to professional deals database, Zephyr.

The main talking point of August was undoubtedly the £3.8 billion merger of Carphone Warehouse plc and Dixons Retail plc. The new company, which will be called Dixons Carphone, will bring well known high street names Carphone Warehouse, Currys and PC World under the same umbrella.

The combined entity aims to branch into domestic heating, lighting and security services which will all be controlled by the mobile phone. Shareholders of Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse will each own 50% of the combined group as a result of the deal.
